Art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. Alyssa integrates the fields of human development, visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms), and the creative process with models of counseling and psychotherapy to provide individual and group art therapy services for a wide range of clients from children, adolescents, adults, and elderly adults. Art Therapy is used to assess and treat the following: anxiety, depression, and other mental and emotional problems and disorders; family and relationship issues; abuse domestic violence; social and emotional difficulties related to disability and illness; trauma and loss; physical, cognitive, and neurological problems; and psychosocial difficulties related to medical illness. Alyssa specializes in working with children and adolescents with ASD, ages 3-18, but is currently available to assist anyone with interest in pursuing art therapy to address your particular needs. Please see the Art Therapy page for more detailed information, or contact Alyssa at (843)259-5609 to discuss your specific needs or to set up an appointment.
